Inside-Out Kick (内回し蹴り 両側)
The Inside-Out Kick - Both Sides (Uchi Mawashi Geri) is a Karate kick executed by lifting the knee, rotating it inward, and swinging the leg in a circular motion from inside to outside. The strike is delivered using the inside edge of the foot before retracting the leg smoothly back into guard.
Practicing this technique symmetrically on both left and right sides helps build fluid motion, hip flexibility, and body control. Retracting the leg after completing the full arc ensures you return to a balanced guard position between repetitions.
How to do it
- Step 1 Lift your knee and rotate it inward.\nSwing your leg in a circular motion from inside to outside.\nExtend your foot and aim to strike with the inside edge.\nRetract your leg after completing the arc.\nReturn to your guard position.\nRepeat on the opposite side.
Keep your leg relaxed before the kick to generate a smooth and controlled motion.\nEngage your core to maintain balance and stability throughout the movement.\nFocus on a fluid, circular trajectory to maximize the efficiency of the kick.\nAdjust your hip rotation to enhance flexibility and reach.\nMaintain a steady rhythm to improve consistency and control on both sides.
Common mistakes
- Tensing the leg before initiating the kick, which disrupts a smooth and controlled circular motion.
- Failing to engage the core throughout the movement, resulting in a loss of balance and stability.
- Neglecting proper hip rotation, which restricts flexibility and shortens your reach.
- Losing steady rhythm between sides, which reduces control and consistency during repetitions.
