High Kick (回し蹴り 上段 両側)
High Kick - Both Sides (回し蹴り 上段 両側) is a Karate kicking technique performed by lifting the knee outward and snapping the leg forward to strike with the top of the foot. Hip rotation is used throughout the motion to maximize striking power.
The technique emphasizes control and recovery, requiring the practitioner to retract the leg immediately upon impact and return directly to a solid guard position on both sides.
How to do it
- Step 1 Quickly lift your knee, turning it outward.\nSnap your leg forward, striking with the top of your foot.\nRotate your hips for more power.\nRetract your leg immediately after impact.\nReturn to your guard position.
Keep your body relaxed to maximize speed and fluidity.\nEngage your core and pivot on the ball of your foot for better balance.\nSnap your kick at the highest point to generate sharp impact.\nControl your breathing to maintain power and endurance.\nMaintain a steady rhythm to ensure consistency on both sides.
Common mistakes
- Tensing the muscles rather than remaining relaxed, which compromises speed and fluidity.
- Failing to pivot on the ball of the foot or engage the core, leading to lost balance during the kick.
- Leaving the leg extended instead of snapping and retracting it immediately after impact.
- Neglecting breathing control and rhythm, leading to inconsistent execution between sides.
